很多人一旦擁有權力後，往往整個人都變了個樣，擺出一副「不可一世」的高傲姿態。而英文裡的”act high and mighty!”，就可以用來形容某人表現的（act）好像自己很高高在上（high）又擁有無比能耐（mighty）的樣子。

同理，”the high and mighty”也就可以用來形容「權貴人士」了。

Jean：Did you just see Amy passing by?
Jean：你有看到Amy走過去嗎？

Vincent：Yes, she certainly looked very cheerful.
Vincent：有啊，她看起來可愉快的咧。

Jean：〝Cheerful〞?〝Proud〞 and〝Arrogant〞 I’d rather say.
Jean：「愉快」？我說是「得意」又「傲慢」吧。

Vincent：Well, she’s now a manager! 
Vincent：喂，人家現在可是個經理！

Jean：I am happy for her, too. I just wish she could have been more humble. 
Jean：我也替她高興啊。只是希望她的態度能稍微謙虛一點。

Vincent：I know what you mean. She suddenly started acting high and mighty since her promotion last week.
Vincent：我懂你的意思。自從上禮拜她昇官後，她突然變得很「不可一世」的樣子。

Jean：Exactly! It’s like we are no longer her friends anymore.
Jean：沒錯！好像我們一下子都不再是她的朋友似的。

Vincent：Well, we’re not going to help her much with her career move. We’re not the high and mighty at all!
Vincent：唉，我們對她的職涯發展又沒有益處。畢竟我們又不是權貴人士。
