From BBC News: Taiwan flashpoint
Introduction

Taiwan has one of Asia's few functioning democracies and one of its strongest economies. But for the island's 23 million people, the future is overshadowed by an unresolved dispute with China.

China sees the island as a breakaway province which should be reunified, by force if necessary. Hundreds of Chinese missiles now aim across the Taiwan Strait to bring home the point.

Both sides are used to dealing with this fraught relationship, and closer economic ties may eventually make conflict less likely. But until that happens, any flare-up over Taiwan would have much wider implications. Most importantly, it could quickly suck the US into conflict with China, because of US security assurances to Taiwan.

My points
I think most Taiwanese need "peace" and "no war". However, that thousands of Chinese missiles (not just hundreds of) aim at Taiwan means "by force if necessary".Tibet is a good example. According to
BBC News "Tibetan riots continue in China" on Monday, 24 March 2008, Tibetan government-in-exile, based in Dharamsala, said innocent civilians were killed by Chinese troops. How can we believe evil China will treat Taiwan well? Besides, how can Taiwanese trust KMT which tries to get closer to China will bring hope to us? I doubt of the feasibility of the coopertaion with China, but I just have only one choice: God bless Taiwan!

That Mr.Hsieh promised to implement 'reconciliation and co-existence' if elected, and pledged to make an all-out effort to ease political tensions is what I believe, though he failed, I hope KMT can adopt Mr. Hsieh's political views. KMT not noly has to consolidate Taiwan's sovereignty but also rise up economy. As Mr. Ma said, "it's time for a change."

Mr. Hsieh said, "today's election is not just an election but an important decision of the people...your vote is not to add flowers to embroidery but to offer fuel in snowy weather."I think 42% Taiwanese have given him a positive answer, and we must insist our belief "Taiwan consciousness" and keep going!
